A Time To Grow Nursery School for children ages 3-5 (Child must be 3 years old by December 1) is limited to 15 students. Classes meet from 9:00-11:30 am on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays. The program focuses on socialization and early school routines and helps to prepare students for school through using play and activities to improve specific skills:
Social-emotional
● Learn to separate from parents
● Have fun at school
● Cooperate by play-sharing and taking turns
● Learn to identify their belongings
● Develop positive self-image by ‘doing’ for themselves
● Listening; increasing attention span
● Following directions
Physical
● Develop motor skills through art activities, manipulation and ‘play-dough’
● Coordinate body movement with outdoor play equipment and indoor games
● Improve eye-hand coordination and eye-foot coordination skills
● Gross motor skills: running, hopping, jumping, climbing, sliding, balancing, begin skipping, coordination, alternating feet on stairs
● Fine motor skills: zippers, buttons, boots, etc.; stacking, balancing, pattering with manipulatives; cutting with scissors; tracing, painting, gluing
Language & Cognitive
● Recognition of upper case letters
● Rhyming words
● Beginning word sounds
● Recognition of shapes
● Recognition of numbers; counting in order; 1 to 1 correspondence
● Increase vocabulary and vocalization skills with finger plays, stories and songs
● Cultivate ability to verbalize needs and frustrations
Fine Arts
● Music, poetry, stories, finger plays
● Coordinate body movement with outdoor play equipment and indoor games
